Making
My practice is formed of three strands which have evolved together and inform each other: I am an artist, educator and curator with a socially-engaged practice.
As an educator, I have worked on projects with communities and groups of all ages and abilities, using arts and art Collections as a vehicle to explore wider social issues and create shifts in thinking and practice.
As an artist, I make sculpture and installation which engages with the language of materials and found objects; a perpetually evolving studio project involves construction of small assemblages from materials collected and re-cycled from places I have lived, or with which I have a personal connection – an act of rebirth.
I am interested in the way in which people feel strong emotions toward, or bestow meaning upon, particular objects, materials or spaces, particularly in the process which transforms something raw into something which is ‘precious’, whether through human touch, knowledge of its history, or the method or technologies involved in its making.
